I would expect any Merc remote control would work, mechanically. I ran my '77 MerControl on my '93 Merc w/o issue, after I grafted the electrical.

Your '74 likely has the quick disconnect wiring on the exterior of the motor. If the boat harness is good, it could be grafted to a newer control box. I did my grafting the quick and dirty way with butt connectors from the old 1977 harness to the new 1993 harness.

I would recommend you get a new remote control w/o wiring and solder your old harness to the new ign switch and neutral safety switch. You would need a large solder iron and some flux to help the solder get hot.

Thank you so much! The guy tried fixing it (control) himself and I guess he destroyed it... he said he bought a new harness for it... but couldn't find a control. Got sick of it just wants to sell the boat.

You can get a new control with a wiring harness and new ign keyswitch on the web for less than $150. You would then need to adapt the wiring.

Alternatively you could get a old remote off fleabay or someplace and stick your ign keyswitch and control cables into it. Those MerControls are real rugged. I only upgraded mine to get the PTT switch under my thumb, vs on the dash.

I have 2 old ones laying around. I would expect someone in your area to have some laying around as well.

I picked up a NOS in the box mid 70's control a few years back off of Craigslist.
