Will Starcraft help to identify a hull with the ID # number or can someone help?
Boats old reg has it as STR with 3 digest after it, could it be only 6 digets in all as a ID # ?

If you post up some pics we can more than likely tell you what you have. Also check out the Starcraft brochures in the Starcraft section.

There also might be a tag attatched to the gunwale on the starboard side that says the model. It might be there still.

How long is it? How wide at the transom? Could be a Mariner, but without the size its just a wild guess.

The boat is 18' long and 70" aprox at the top of the transom. I did find the hull ID# plate still trying to strip the old paint off it to see the numbers. 12 numbers in all the last 4 are M74D if that helps.

Re: 1974 Starcraft Identiftcation

That looks like a Mariner to me bud. I'm not sure if the year is right and my brochures are in storage. But the gunwales, cleats, and the way the inside sides are counstrcted are exactly like my old mariner. The big indicator is the lack of aluminum stiffiners on the sides. This area was open on the mariner and the stiffiners were made of wood and also doubled as rod holders. Also the inner trim metal is that of a Mariner. And they did make them in 18 some years.

And 73 Chieftain, in the 70's Starcraft started making brochures that didn't carry their entire line. That Brochure you linked is just for Runabouts and doesnt include models like the Mariner so this could easily be a 74.

You would be very lucky to find info on the original boats. Starcraft's parent company doesn't have any to my knowledge.

I have an original 21' Mariner, link is in my sig. There are a few guys here that have some 18' Mariners, most are being rebuilt.

You might post a CL ad or some other internet source and see if you could find someone with literature or an actual boat. good luck...

I dont think I have a 74 brochure but I could probably get you something close. You're missing some stuff but it's mostly sheetmetal for the front casting deck and of course the console but they come up every once in a while.

Re: 1974 Starcraft Identiftcation

This is something I already had scanned. It's a page from the 71 brochure showing the mariner and saying it came in 21 and 18'. Hope this helps some.

Re: 1974 Starcraft Identiftcation

Okay after a long weekend 4 days of work I got the transom installed. As you can see the center of the old transom was removed :~( after poking around the old alum it looked like a screen from a very old window. Hit it with a wire brush to clean it up and it ripped like a wet news paper. Not a good :~). No turning back now. I cut it back tell I got to good alum. I placed 2” wide X 1/8” thick alum stock and with the good old 5200 in hand started to drill and blind rivet (closed end ) After 24 hour cure time just filled the boat with water no leaks did find 6 rivets on the floor that dripped got them marked for replacement when I strip the boat for paint. Now it’s on to the splash shield sand blast and reinstallation. IMG00045-20120508-1218.jpgIMG00046-20120508-1219.jpg
