Had some carb issues and I pulled it and cleaned it. Ordered a kit for it. Got the kit. Went to put it in and found there MAY be something missing from the new kit......
When I pulled the carb off the engine I noticed there was a small "plug"(?) in the fuel pump element (?). Kept all the parts I took out just in case. I thought all these parts would come in the kit. But that little "plug" didnt.

My question is this...... Whats this plug for? And my next question is....Do I use the old plug or is it not needed?
I also noticed there was a thick gasket on the fuel pump and when I got the kit the gasket was thin. Does this have something to do with the plug being in the element?

Searched forever but found no info that was helpful so I registered and asked.
Thanx in advance.

You need the fuel pump element (orange rubbery 1" long tube thinggey:D) as the outboard will not pump fuel without it. If you are careful with the old one (and it's in good condition) you could use the old one, but I wouldn't. The element can be easily destroyed with solvents, carb cleaner, and shrivel up so handle it carefully.

Also, the element needs to be aligned in to the hole correctly so it receives pulses from the crankcase properly. Been years since I owned one of these, but remember it was important when the element was installed. Something like the flat side needed to be placed in the 2 o'clock position, but don't take that as gospel,,, look it up.

All I can think of is the plug replaces the pump element if the motor doesn't have provision for a remote tank.
