1974 Winner Cobra

Hi Folks:

We have an 1974 Winner Cobra in Yellow. At some time in the indeterminate past, someone left it moored to a dock for a while and through wave action etc, it picked up some fairly deep scratches on the hull. Through the yellow color into the white fiberglass underneath. Ugly but not deep enough to compromise hull integrity or strength. I would like to find a way to repair them so they look better -- its a nice little runabout, and I dont want to have it looking shabby. Can anyone suggest a way or a reference or something?

Clean the scratched areas well with acetone and small wire brush. Buy a Gelcoat repair kit. (sold right here on iBoats) and then use the colors to mix the appropriate color. Overfill the scratches and once cured, sand smooth and then buff with 1000 grit paper. NOTE: The hardest part of the entire process is mixing the right color. Start with tiny amounts and compare in Direct Sunlight. Once you have the mixing ratio mix enuf to make the repair.

Assuming that's all the boat needs, you've got the best info on making scratches look better. I'd suggest you get a few pics (whole boat, closer to scratches, closeup of scratches) and post 'em up here
