I want to know the goods and bads of this motor. it was bought on a refinished sidewinder and the guy couldnt get it to run at the time of sale.

its got a merc control with a jack plate hooked up, so today i put the linkage on, hooked up a fuel line and changed one of the plugs for a spare because it was rusty (cyl 6) i was too lazy to compression test it so i just used my finger ;)

the day before i oiled the cylinders with some storage spray from the garage. the next day i got it to run perfectly. the second battery fully charged had it bark up and run very good at idle......water wasnt coming out, I blew out the line and its pumping water fine.

ill probably change the LU oil, what should I look over on this motor ? ive never used it before and no one around me likes these black mercs haha

also the history is that the motor already blew its top piston and has a weisco piston in there. the guy said it blew because the trim was too high lol

what is the max rpm ? how fast with the 3blade prop should this go ? the lowerunit is silver motor is black

thanks i boats !

Change out the impeller too. I have a 73 1500 and I love it. Search the forum, there is a link & sync procedure you might want to do well you're at it. It's worth doing, just to know it's all set right. Oh, and check the compression! I love the Mercs, I also have a 66 850 that runs great!
