Hi all again! Still brining the ole Johnny back to life! Has leaky seals on the prop shaft so I'm trying to pull out the bearing carrier assy! Problem is the darn thing refuses to budge, even with a wheel puller threaded into the two holes! Keeps bending the two rods nd slipping off! Should I try using jaw pullers? Heat maybe?

Hey airman, I just acquired the same year motor (but 70Hp) that hadn't been dropped / disassembled in 2 decades.

I heat the housing with a heat gun and my trusty puller popped it right off (nail to prevent the prop shaft from spinning).

Hang-in there & hope that helps!

Yeah I'd say mine hasn't seen a breakdown in at least 2 decades either! Those pics are great! I've got a similar setup...are you using an impact wrench? That might be the ticket! I'll def try heat! Thanks! I'll post updates as soon as I attempt again tomorrow!

I've never needed the impact for a bearing carrier. I believe I used a 3/8" breaker bar. Apply the heat near the o-ring (forward) end of the carrier; mine was buggered-up pretty good with Adhesive-M.

That's good info...mine looks pretty nasty in there, got it soaking in some clp under pressure from the wheel puller...I bet the heat is the trick! And shorter bolts and longer puller arms! Thanks for the tips!

Good deal! Clean-up all of that nasty grime & sludge out of there and she'll slide in most of the way.

Some easy swats with a 2x4 scrap on a section of PVC got it seated for me.

I got it in very easily! I took some 200 grit paper and polished off some minor corrosion that was around the carrier and put some marine grease on the aft section and gear oiled the oring! After a couple hours of testing no leaks!

awesome and congratulations!!! mine was/is giving me some grief. I was pulling my hair out focused on the shift housing (resealed it 3 times because it was definitely leaking at the gasket after the 1st attempt) and finally tore the whole thing down again...which revealed that I had a 2nd source of intrusion...a pinched driveshaft bearing carrier o-ring.
