So I bought this boat, lets just say I didn't steal it. First attempt at boaterdom, didn't want to spend a lot, didn't really want a project. that was then.

So please admit me to the Starmada

Replaced the gear selector in the Power Pilot, easy enough, got the 50hp Evinrude running okay

Needs a new transom

So I got me some questions

Should I remove the splashwell? I've seen a bunch of threads and it goes both ways.

Can I remove the motor with a cherry picker using this lifting ring or do I need to use the flywheel threads?

How to remove steering cable?

The plan is to replace the transom, use it, catch some salmon, restore the deck, use it, maybe buy a bigger boat some day.

Welcome to the Starmada places, great looking Holiday you have. My opinion is it is easier to do the transom and seal the splash well if you remove it. The lifting ring will work to lift it off, but re-installing it is easier with the flywheel holes, as they hold it level. The steering cable is removed by loosening the large nut of the tilt tube on the starboard side of the motor, then take the 3/8 nut of the steering arm on the port side of the tilt tube. Then when you lift the engine you can slide it to the port side to get the cable out off the tilt tube.

BEINVENIDOS, YER IN. THE INITIAL PIX ARE YOUR FIRST YEAR'S DUES.

Dozer be Tha Man and has restored more of these crocks than about anyone, but i'll note that it really ain't hard to pull/replace the trans w/o yanking splashwell. just did the same job on an 18 holiday, easy. you just lever the old one out from below bit by bit. me, i wouldn't bother pulling the splashwell unless i was going to shorten it a bit, which a lot of folks have done.

nice boat!

Is the splash well supposed to be attached to the Transom in some fashion. I have the same situation on a 1974 Holiday 16 that I plan on digging into next spring. Just planning things out now.

Yes - With 1256 screws under the splashwell into the transom wood. You should be able to see them under the seam at the splashwell/transom junction.

I overstated the number of screws, but it's a lot. :)

i just counted the screws, and it's only 783. ;)
FWIW on your plan, it's a lot easier to do transom and floors at same time

Yup... +1 on that there.... another way to put it is "ya may as well...."

Only problem is that "ya may as well..." usually results in a complete restore!!

Nice rig though.... kinda partial to it!

I really need to update with photos or start a new thread in the restoration section as InMotion's words ring true.
I found the bottom of the knee brace pulling through rivets, some galvanic corrosion on the transom skin and a bit on the floor as well as foam that had deteriorated due to fuel spills( I think). And the rainy season came early so I'm mulling the HF portable garage for a workshop.

And so it begins!!!! :)

You can keep the thread where it is as well... many have complete restore threads in the StarCraft section... it's kinda an exclusive club ya know! Insiders Club if you will... difference between this and say a posh country club is that you have to build your own vs hanging out at...

why am i having visions of a sled accelerating downhill.....? i suspect about 75% of the folks here thought their boat wouldn;'t need much when they brought it home. i still remember telling the wife that the Starchief was almost ready to go, in 2010.

of course, read the completed resto threads and see if you find anyone that regrets doing it, even if the completed boat never seems to be worth the $ you have in her in a pure mkt value sense, let alone the time.

Yep, plan on doing the floor and the foam underneath. The past couple of years the beads from the foam under the floor plug the bilge pump.

The boat is this thread is slightly different from mine. Mine has a vinyl insert that runs down the middle of the front deck and the whole dash is lined with matching vinyl.

Kevin---we don't just want a descrip, we greedily demand pix and harass you til you dish up. start a thread on your boat, eh?

i think that stuff might be the deluxe version, but it may just be yearly differences. others on here know way more than me on this.
