1975 165 hp question

I noticed this after I put a water pump kit in. The shifter linkage is not fully joined.Is this going to be a problem??

yes, ya likely forgot to put the washer on top of the shift shaft in the lower. this washer raises the shift shaft shoes to mate proper.

the washer can be seen on the rusty shift shaft in the lower. mines a '75 mc-1.

^^^ Yep. You will need to split the halves and put that washer back in place.
