1975 50 hp evinrude outboard Tachometer not working.

I bought a teleflex tach and wired it up to my 1975 50hp evinrude outboard to grey wire and get nothing, i know the tach has power cause it zeros out when the key is turned. i hooked it to the white wire coming from underneath the flywheel and it moved alittle but not really nothing.The tach has settings for 6pulse and 5pulse then the settings for 4,6,8, cylinder. i dont know what to do so please help.

Could it be the rectifier not working.

Set it for 6P. The grey wire that dead ends in the helm conttrol should attach with the yellow wire on the engine terminal board. Rectifier doesn't have to work for the tach to work. The tach reads the pulsed A/C current from the stator.

I have it hooked there now and the needle on the tach barley moves. its a brand new tach and is set to 6p. i noticed the yellow wire screws in the side bar with the grey wire screwwd to the same post coming out the other end. The tach is a teleflex 7k with 5p 6p then settings for 4,6,8 cylinder engin

On a 50 hp you set it to 5 p. Your charging system may not be working. Stator or rectifier ??

should i just replace the rectifier and see if that works? I have run a wire from the tach to the motor. were should i hook it to? grey wire in the harness or the yellow wire on the rectifier?
