If you're able to, run it in the dusky evening hours without the hood and see if there's any stray sparking coming off the wires or coils.
Remove the coils from their mounting bracket and inspect them for cracking and/or arc burns. Be sure to pull away the rubber around each coil and inspect in particular the backsides of the coils where they mount against the bracket.
These are notorious for cracking then they arc to ground, causing misfires.
Can't recall if your motor has points or not, if it does you should probably clean & gap them, and replace the white plastic points wire insulators.
If yours has a CDI "Black Box" and trigger assy with no points (you'll see a set of wires coming out from under the Stbd Fwd side of the flywheel, these are the trigger wires), wiggle the trigger wires while the motor's running.
These wires are known to break from flexing and this can cause an intermittant missing problem.
Check the conn's at the CDI box as these can corrode and cause problems too.
