1975 70 hp evinrude cuts out ??

My friend has a 1975 70 hp evinrude. It starts up great but when he puts it in gear it dies out. any help would be appriciated thanks to all.

idle adjustment, carbs cleaning and rebuild, you didn't give us much to work with

it starts up fine then when it is put in gear it dies out. If we get luckly and keep it in gear without cutting out it won't accel or takes for ever to accel to top speed when throttle is all the way down. When it does get to top speed it puts. I was told by a guy that it might be the power pack but i dont see how. thanks for all the help
