Hi, Thank you all for the great information that has been posted here!
I have a 75 hp motor that is not starting. I have fuel from the pump and is dripping out the carb in very small amounts .
I have spark on all 3 plugs and will not fire with gas in the cylinders. Battery is fully charged.
The choke solenoid in not engaging(test with a hot wire from the main terminal operating fine) Thinking it may be the started switch.
Will not fired up, starter is good, was running fine and then just would not start the next day.
As part of my trouble shooting I did notice/feel the coil/clamp was getting hot with the key on, and there are 2 cracks in the coil body.
I think this is part of my no starting/running issue. Any ideas here?
Also is there a way to convert this old system to something newer?

I did check the comp it is 135,135, 140
I do have good spark I do not know how to test the strength of it, it does look good and strong(bright and big)
Still trying to figure why my choke solenoid is not getting any power.
I do know that with spark, compression, fuel these things should run.
Pulling the flywheel today to check the points.
Thanks for the reply :)

75Hp with that modelnumber is a 1967 year model. This engine do not have the MagnaPower ign. from factory. It has a battery ign. system similar to old car ign.system . The points is not under the flywheel, it is in the distributor.
As you says it has spark at all plugs and it has fuel, then it should start.
BUT check the flywheel key. If it is shared the spark is coming at wrong time.
Cracks in the coil is no good.
You can change it and use a automotive coil, to see if it will start.
If the choke solenoid not engage even if you jump from hot battery plus. Then it is fried.

I have checked the site and I thought it was a 1975 being as that was the first year that they had parts for, I will keep checking on that thanks
I did jump the solenoid and it activates from the hot on the terminal.
May I ask where that solenoid gets it power from?
Also would you happen to know where I could find a coil ?

Appreciated!

The solenoid activates from the keyswitch. Youcan push the key in when the key is in ON and START position to activate.

I do not know the junkyards in US because I am in Skandinavia. Maybe some other as Frank, jerryjerry, jiggz will chime in and give you junkyards.
I think you can get new solenoids, coil and keyswitch even all parts that are available from Franz Marine.
