Im considering purchasing this motor for my 16.5 ' Cobia W bow but dont know anything about their history. The current owner is unable to start her up because he has no ignition key. Was his late uncles boat and is not able to find it. It has been sitting for over 2 years and hasnt been run. It does easily crank from the flywheel. So im thinking it may be ok. He is asking 350.00 for the motor and control box which looks like it need to be replaced or repaired(Control box). I dont know if there is a way to start it without a key. The ignition switch is built into the control box and would be a bear to get at. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

if i were you i'd have to hear it run first. god knows what it might need and $350 could easily turn into much much more.

A dealer can get you a key. After sitting that long, it needs some work, so plan on that. Carburetor kits and cleaning, fuel tank and hose, water pump, for sure.

You can start it by disconnecting the big wire plug and jusmp starting it if you know what you are doing. If you don't know what you are doing, figure on some more repairs.
