Hi everyone. Another project, this one i got with a bunch of undone wires and such. after getting all back togeather I wanted to test compression. put in good battery and four or five cranks blew little shorty fuse behind solenoid. could this indicate a overdraw from starter? Comutator bar was bad and some debris inside starter. I have straightened that out and starter checks out . I have new fuses but don't want to burn them up if i'm barking up the wrong tree. Thanks

The fuse does not protect the starter; it protects the ignition switch wiring and the engine harness.

Click the thumbnail for diagram.

Generally, you don't want any accessories wired to the ignition switch because the wiring is not big enough to handle it.

You probably have a short somewhere that is blowing the fuse. Disconnect the battery and check the circuits with an ohmmeter.
