OK, I replaced the water pump, fuel pump and did a carb kit. It runs maybe a couple of seconds after choking and quits. I removed the carb and found more junk and I am pretty sure it is clean. I even removed the core plugs to make sure and replaced them. There was jun there too. It still runs a few seconds and quits like it needs gas. I replaced the fuel line from the input to the fuel pump. Tank vent is open and working and the fuel line is clean and the bulb pumps up hard. I took the fuel line off and I get fuel when pumping the bulb. The pump pulses when I pull through the starter rope. Every time I remove the carb the reservoir is full of fuel. I set the float to level when inverted. It just seems starved for gas.

The idle mix interior bushing is gone as is the outer bushing. I used teflon tape to seal the idle mix threads but I would still think it would run longer than a couple of seconds. It runs just a second or two even when I take the idle mix needle all the way out??? Trying not to miss anything, but any ideas?

A couple of things. Try to give it more gas. Turn throttle up to the nuetral stop and see if it will run longer. Not sure of your starting procedure, but I know with my 1975 9.9, in the cooler mornings I need to pull the choke, set the throttle to the proper spot and then rip on the starter. When it starts, I slowly push in the choke but usually it will want to die so I pull the choke back out and then slowly push it in. This may go on once or twice and then I push the choke in and it idles OK and then I slowly reduce the throttle to the shifting position and I am off.

It wouldn't hurt to check your spark with an external spark tester to ensure it is strong enough to jump a 3/8" gap and that both cylinders are firing. If you have a compression tester you can test that at the same time. Helps narrow down the culprit.
