can anyone tell me which ignition system is more or less trouble free?

I have a magneto ignition on my mule. I have heard some bad things about the ignition systems on the old models and did not know which is better to have.

Battery ignition has two coils mounted on the side of the engine. These ignition systems have an alternator to charge the battery.

Magneto ignitions have the two magneto coils mounted under the flywheel. These ignition systems are self energising and have no alternators because there is no room. Thus, they will not charge the battery and replace power used in starting. So, after a long day of stopping and starting, the battery needs to be manually charged.

Both systems use points and condensers, and both are relatively simple and trouble free.

The advantage to the magneeto system is that even with a completely discharged battery, you can pull start the engine.

With battery ignition, if there is not enough power in the battery to produce sufficient voltage in the coils, you can not pull start the engine.
