How much water is supposed to come out of the 2 holes on the back of the motor half way up from the propeller?

That is a really vague question. It depends a lot on if you're running on muffs, in the water, idling, half throttle, full throttle...etc etc. If you give a detailed questions most likely one of these fine people will give you a detailed response.

It really depends upon the way the midleg is "plugged." Some have a couple of plastic plugs where the exhaust passes through to the lower unit and some just have holes. Sometimes the gasket around the exhaust downtube is missing.

Bottom line: On muffs, usually a fine spray will exit. At idle, again, a fine spray. At high rpm it can vary from a heavy spray to a solid stream depending upon how much is "leaked" around the exhaust downtube.

On muffs, you will also get a good amount exiting with the exhaust through the snout.
