I recently purchased a boat with this motor (1973 50hp Evinrude 50573B) which runs perfect thus far. I noticed that there was some green plastic melting down the sides of the block from under the flywheel (the Stator). The motor runs great, but id like to take some preventative action before it fails on me. Motor runs as it should and doesn't get hot. However, I felt the top of the flywheel the other day after running up the river a bit and it was hotter than the block itself. this leads me to believe that there is a problem developing. I figured it was just the stator going, but after reading around a bit, I think that I may be able to get away with just replacing the rectifier/regulator? does anyone have any advice or input? Im going camping this weekend and I'd like to fix the problem before its too late. Thank you, Matt
