I have a 1975 Evinrude 85hp without power trim and tilt. I have the power trim and tilt from a 1988 88hp Johnson. Can I switch trim/mounting bracket from 88 to 75.

Thanks

Re: 1975 Evinrude 85hp and 88 88hp PTT

Just researced this myself for my '76 Johnson 85hp. The short answer is no. The vintage we have used trim cylinders that mounted outside the transom bracket. The later ones mount inside and are not interchangable. I was told it is possible to adapt the midsection of a newer v4 to the older motor and get this to work, but is difficult and not advisable. I finally ran across someone who had a "dealer installed" tilt only on a '74 model that served my needs. Shoot me an e-mail at Ranger305@hotmail.com and I may have a couple ideas for you.

Be careful when looking for one of these units as there are tilt/trim units and tilt only units.
