Greetings, I have recently pruchased <04-12-03> a 1973 ArrowGlass Cheetah with a 1975 Evinrude 115hp OB. The OB starts very quickly but idles rough and when I rev it up a bit <water hose is attached> you can here it missing horribly <sounds terrible>. The last owner said he had it serviced 2 years ago and when I pull a plug I find them to be in good shape but very very wet. I called a dealer and he says the Carbs probably need to be rebuild and it will be $238.00 +tax +parts. I was wondering what else could I check before I do this and how hard is it to rebuild these carbs for a moderatly mechanicaly inclined person.

phison4,<br /><br />You can do it. You can get a manual (about $25.00) from this site.<br /><br />The parts will be less than $75.00 (OEM).<br /><br />I'm not sure that is your only problem, yet that is where I would start.

Re: 1975 Evinrude Carb Rebuilding?

Thanks for the Reply. I am working on another angle at the moment. I was thinking last night and it occured to me the previous owner said he used fogger on it for winterization <were in Salt Lake City, UT> so I am going to pull the plugs, crank it over a few times to blow the cylinders out install new plugs and see where that gets me. The carb was covered in this oil and I think that is why the plugs are so wet when I pull them out. They are oil fouled. If this fails to work I will be pulling the carbs since I can think of no other reason for the way she is running.<br /> Last night I made up some fresh 50/1 gas and used a tank I knew was clean but that did not help she still runs like a pig.
