HI there helping my brother fix his 1975 evinrude outboard..25 hp.... was running very badly, replaced ignition pionts and eventually figured out the problem was the original float was eaten up by ethinol...got a carb kid and installed it... went to try the motor and far some reason the recoil isnt working properly...it seems like the black flipper on the top that engages the starter recoil assembly is stopping the rope from returning..and there is a type of spring on a slide with a notch that goes under the black flipper...i thought we reassembled it the same way we took it off...we held everything in place when we took it apart so there was no loss in spring tension..any ideas what the heck were doing wrong????????it worked great when we removed the assembly any ideas would be appreciated, thank you so much..
