I had another post about this engine being at WOT and running as if it is set to 1600RPM. I stripped the carb again today soaked for 3 hours in carb cleaner and blew it out with the air hose. I cleaned all fuel lines and the fuel pump as well.

I had a suggestion from a couple of others on the forum about the reed(s) being the reason why this engine wont take off and run at WOT. Can anyone tell me where they (reed(s)) are so I can check them out. From looking around on the board it seems as if they might become full of carbon and not work anymore? I really have no idea.... I will try decarboning the engine tomorrow and check for spark.

Can anyone tell me how to do some basic testing on these coils? I took them off the engine and have them here and was hoping I could do a couple basic test on them tonight.

image. The coils do have a couple of small cracks...should they be of concern...?

When you replaced the carbs, did you do a link and sync. ?

The only thing I know how to sync is the carb. I set the engine to idle then put the adjuster onto the carb and tightened down the set screw (see image.) When manually going to WOT it does open the butterfly 100%. When turning it to idle it closes the butterfly all the way. I didnt get time to try and run it again today:hoping to send fire to the beast tomorrow.

I'm sorry, I seem to be cross threaded.
What motor are we talking about here?
Do you have more that one carb?

Run it at night and see if the coils are arcing out. Mine did this, and i fixed it with some epoxy (non metalic). Runs perfect now.

Back to the question of the reeds: It is highly unlikely that they are the problem. Certainly not from carboning up anyhow. Very rarely one will break, and I emphasize VERY rarely. Once in awhile something will come loose and get ingested and caught in a reed. (dirt-dauber nest?)

Anyway, they are behind the intake manifold which is behind the carburetor.
