Hello all. Found the forum while surfing for info. I recently acquired a 1975 15hp Gamefisher. Looks brandnew under the cowling. I only get spark on the bottom coil. I can switch the coils and still only get on the bottom coil. I checked all the wires on the ignition with a meter and all sound out fine. No breaks. If I take the top plug out to check for spark, the motor will sometimes start running on just the bottom cylinder. I took the carb off and cleaned it with carb cleaner. Put new plugs in. I am going to change out the lower unit oil this evening. Any ideas on the problem? I am praying it isn't the magneto as I can only find a replacement in one place and it is over $200. Ain't paying that for a $100 motor. Thanks for the help.

Perhaps the condenser on the top plug is bad. Have you tried new points and condenser? That would be my first guess. Good luck.

I don't believe it has points or condensers. The cowling says electronic ignition. It has wires running from the plugs up to the magneto assembly under the flywheel. I may be missing something here, but I don't believe it is a points ignition.

it is the coil there are 2 one for each cyl /you would not have a spark on one if it was the mag. But coils for them are rather high, not 200 maybe 50. try to ck spark by quickly touching the + side to the coil to 12 volts /just the tap of the wires real quick if it does not spark bad coil.If u can't find one on iboats link/parts let us know :p :)

my bad if it does not have coils on the side of the motor /ele.ing you will have pull flywheel to get a look and the 12volt thing won't work

You are right. On mine, there are two coils on the back of the motor. I thought it was the coil too. So, I took the coil I was getting spark from and put it on the top. Still no spark. I put the coil I thought was bad and put it on the bottom and no it gets spark. This leads me to believe it is not the coil. I rang out all the wires and none are broken. I checked the kill switch and it is operating fine. The magneto ignition is the only thing else I can think of. Anyone want to buy a motor?

Try a small motor / lawnmower shop. They should be able to hook you up with some coils for the powerhead on your motor. Also, I did lots of searching and found the company that bougth out all the Eska stock when the folded. They even had ignitions for my motor, just for more than I want to spend. I lost the name, but if you search enough, you will find their number.
