I replaced the water pump in my 1975 Johnson 115 about 7 months ago. Just wanting to know what can make it go out that fast. I noticed that the little nets that keeps trash out of the engine is broken out. If trash has gotten into my engine how can I find out and should I search for it before starting running my engine again. I have already replaced the old melted and worn out water pump this a new one just want to know where to go from here so that my pump will not go out as fast this time. Thanks any information will be welcomed.

yes replace those nets, its a whole plastic unit you remove from under the pump lower plate.
You can hook a hose up to the inlet tube when its dropped and flush the motor that way.
Also check the pump housing for wear

Thanks Bosunsmate I will make sure that I change those nets in the morning while I still have everything apart. For the pump housing, that will need to be changed. I bought the repair kit that came with everything that I would need.
