Hello Everyone,

I've combed through the many postings here couldn't find my answer sooooo... here goes.

Per an outboard repair outfit, I will need a clutch dog. I have looked at both

GLM 22633
Sierra 18-2220

The OEM p/n is 317797 (used in the 115HP from 73-76 models)

When I called both GLM and Sierra tech support, they didn't know if their version would work in my engine.

Another question was if the current dog clutch is a 3 dog or 6 dog (which we don't know at the moment). If there is anyone out there who has replaced the clutch dog for this particular year, make and model Johnson outboard, please let me know if either the 3rd party product will work without any negative impacts. I know Johnson has the part I need but like everyone else, I'd like to save money where I can.

Thanks in advance for any help/info anyone can provide.

Mike

Usually if the clutch dog is bad/damaged so are the gear ramps and I would replace both. You will need to get the parts from a dealer as Serria does not show a dog for this year only 1977 and up years. I know of no aftermarket supplier as this is a hydro/mechanical shift unit and very few aftermarket parts are offered for it other than seals and bearings. The difference is the way it shifts and prop shaft design.

Thanks for the response Faztbullet - I was thinking I will have to go with the dealer part unless I pull everything apart 1st and take a looksie at what I have. Once I can see the physical parts I can make a better decision and go from there. I was hoping someone had the same issue as I did and could confirm one way or the other.

Thanks again for replying...
