1975 Johnson 50 hp reverse problem

Whenever I shift into reverse and begin to back up my motor jumps up and down almost coming out of the water. I'm sure there's something that's supposed to hold down the motor when in reverse but I'm not sure what it is. Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve the issue? Thanks!

lock the moter in place there should be a a lever that locks it down and unlocks it to raise unless you have power tilt & trim then you may have other problems

I'm not 100% sure on what to do to lock the motor in place. Most motors of this model I've seen automatically lock in place when the motor is let down.
