Johnson 85 starter engaged but no spark on any cylinders. Was testing with test light for power to circuit and shorted number two post on accident. Now it won't engage starter completely dead. Jump starter solenoid and starter engages. Does anyone have ideas? Please help.

Re: 1975 Johnson 85

You probably blew the small 20 amp fuse in the engine wiring harness. Easy to replace, but the fuse is pretty unique-it's a glass fuse and much smaller than normal automotive glass fuses. The fuse hides inside a rubber boot (a bulge in the wiring harness) located close to the starter solenoid. You may have to check a factory parts list to see what the fuse holder looks like and where it is located: epc.brp.com

Thank you sir for the reply. I had blown the fuse but it still doesn't have spark. Starter engages but does not fire

You may find some good ignition troubleshooting at cdielectronics.com. Once you get into this stuff, the only real thing to have is the factory service manual: outboardbooks.com
