1975 johnson impeller

im new to boating and the guy i bought the boat from said i would probably need to change the impeller on the outboard. is that the same as a water pump. sorry if the questions i will be asking sound dumb but i would rather ask a stupid question than burn up my motor. thanks for the advice

Yes, an impeller "pumps" water up through the water jacket of the motor. They are fairly easy to install and you won't need an "special" tools. There are guys on this site that can guide you through the job if you need help.

Yes, fairly easy job. A few bolts and the lower unit will drop. Just make sure you disconnect the shift linkage (side panel on the side of the motor). I have a 1960 40hp Evinrude and I have to tap on the lower unit with my hands to get it to drop. When installing the lower unit make sure your water pump line goes into the pump and your shift linkage is tight. Good Luck!
