I pulled the head on my 28 hp Mariner because it quit running on me after suddenly starting to lose power. I found a scored cylinder wall on the lower cylinder so I want to rebuild it. I can't seem to get the engine out after removing four bolts on the bottom. I'm thinking I need to drop the shaft for it to release the motor so it can be pulled out for rebuild.
This is the first outboard engine rebuild for me and any advice from someone experienced with these little outboards would be appreciated.
