Hi all. Brand new here and a first time boat owner. I am replacing the fuel pump gaskets on my '75 Mercury 500, and I was wondering about 2 things:
(1) I am soaking the fuel pump housing in solvent, but I didn't put the check valves in because I didn't know if it was okay to soak them in solvent (because of the diaphragm in them). Should I soak them or no?
(2) The fabricky filter between the fuel pump and the housing is still stuck on the motor housing. With what should I get that off? It's stuck almost like it was glued on. I'm hesitant to use acetone or some other solvent to remove it because I don't want it getting into any of the rubber hoses, etc., and causing damage. On the other hand, maybe I'm just being over-careful??
Thanks in advance for your help.
