Hi,
I am new to this forum. I have a 76 evinrude 115hp on a 21ft deep v runs great starts right up runs fine no problems with it till last night. Took it out on the lake ran it thought it was going about 20mph i thought that was a little slower then normal exceptt when i turned real hard it would speed up so i figured maybe the throttle cable was loose. Took it to the dock and popped the hood off tightened the cable a little. Got back out in open water and it ran great got up to 32 mph against the whitecaps was running fine. Wanted to take it for one more round and got about a quarter of the way out there and it just slowed way down to 20mph like i throttled it down still runs good just not as fast as it should be. I dont have any idea what it could be was hoping for some help on what to look for on getting it fixed.

Then my trim tilt i can get it to go up no problem filled it up cant get it to come back down you can here it running trying to come down it just wont so i thought meybe air locked so i manually realased it and ran it up again repeating a couple times to flush the system a still nothing. Anyone got any ideas on these two problems.

Thanks for any info

I had a 140 hp 1981 Johnson. The motor would go up but not down. My wife asked me if the battery was ok. I was ready
to replace the coupling between the motor and pump. I hooked up another battery and it worked perfectly. She always goes for the easy stuff first! Maybe you will be lucky like me! John

Regarding the rpm drop. Possible you have lost spark to one cyl. When testing for good spark, make sure the engine is heated up to normal operating temps prior to testing. Weak ignition components tend to work just fine when the engine is cold. Possible the trim switch is bad on one side. To test the switch, reverse the wires on the back of the switch.
