Ok I have a old evinrude 135hp. The problem is when I take off I have to keep bumping the choke while accelerating or it will die. It starts to bog down at the halfway point and if I don't bump the choke it will die out. If I hit the coke it will sputter for a second then take off. The carbs have been cleaned thorough. I mean soaked and cleaned 3 times. The compression is 122, 123, 125, 125. I am fine with bumping the choke but I don't want to tear it up doing this. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Hows it go at WOT?
Check your lines, crankcase for any air leaks (spray some starting fluid around it and see if rpm increase on muffs).
Any backfiring on muffs?

No it doesn't backfire and the starting fluid had no change. It runs really good at wot after I hit the choke for it to get past dying stage.

I sounds like you still have a carb problem. When you cleaned the carbs did you remove all of the orifices and the core plugs and make sure all the passages where clean and unrestricted?

Re: 1976 135hp evinrude

Faztbullet recommended to me that it may be a leaky intake(for my motor). My gt150 is doing the same thing. I have to choke it to get it up on a plane. I did take my manifold off to swap out the boyesons for another set. I don't think my carbs are dirty(though I will check it). I'm anal about my carbs being clean. So maybe there is a leak in the intake that you are unaware of? Just wanted to throw that in.
