Only forward gear works. Have confirmed that the switch is bad in the control box. My guy at the marina says that the outboard switch is NOT the same as the I/O switch and will blow the lower unit. Is this true? If so, anyone know a source for a replacement? Thanks.

Welcome aboard:

I can't tell you for sure the outboard box will work, but I have not heard that it'll blow the lower. I think nearly any switch that'll send 12 volts back to the lower unit will do. I've seen people rig switches for them successfully.

So you've tested and you're 12v in F, and nuthin' in R?

Check out post #8 in THIS topic. Howard and couple of other guys on the forum are a lot more knowledgeable on this stuff than I am, but the drum shifter he shows there is what suggests to me that the OB unit would work if it fits the electrical current.
