Google up "Leroy's Ramblings" which is written by The Machinist and somewhere in there I think he talks about building up metal with JB Weld or some type of material. Good luck

Hopefully he will get on this site and be able to give you some guidance; I don't remember him saying anything but JB Weld, i pictured that type that comes in the round plastic tube that you can get from Walley World or any parts house.

i am hoping, i used J-B Stix, but no go, it would not harden, too big of a patch i suppose ?????

what about belzona super e-metal? we use it at work for coal chutes. you mix grey and white putty together and it hardens. i've patched up a variety of things with it. this is what it lists it is used for...
Applications include:

Oversized bearing / bush housings
Fractured and holed casings
Leaking tanks
Scored hydraulic rams
Sloppy keyways
Scored machine beds
Fractured pipes
Undersized / scored shafts
Stripped threads

Re: 1976 15 HP water jacket problems

well here is what i did. i used the old aluminum plates that used to be at the bottom of my front door when we bought the house. It was changed to brass, ASAP.

then i cut some small strips to
A) fit inside the housing to build it back up. and then the outside for the same reason.
B) used J B Weld on the inside of this wide track to "fill it in"

this is all mute anyway, and will be saved as a backup. I found a 78 9.9 basket case ( for 200)with the power-head blown apart, but everything else intact. for now i will switch lower units, and the transom mount bracket. during the winter i will change out the exhaust bracket section as well.............boom back in business

new pics of the repair

this power-head is mint, 210 lower cylinder and 185 in the top, well within the 10% margin :)
