I need some help please I have recently finished a 15ft v-mate with a 1974 inline 6 150hp. I took it out on Thursday and only gps at 44 mph. I was expecting more speed out of it. I don't have a tach on it yet so I don't know the rpms I was running but it seemed to be a little slow out of the hole so I assumed it would have great top end. My question is there any carb, throttle, or any other adjustments I can do before I get a tach to see if I can get more speed. Also by the sound of motor it seemed I still wasn't up to the 5000 range in rpm. It just seemed like there was still motor there but I had it pegged. Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I have rebuilt carbs and fuel pump 130 on all cylinders new impeller. I don't think there is anything wrong with motor just needs fine tuning a bit. Not sure where to start. Others on checkmates forums r running smaller 115s and up in the 60s range just figured I would be closer to that out of the box with the 150.

Ok I might get one in the morning. Will anyone work for now till I find what I really want. I haven't gotten one yet cause I'm looking for gauges that I want to keep. Will a auto tach work for now?
