1976 25hp overheating

replaced the impellar,still not pumping water.there was no impellar in lower unit when I got the motor.should the ears on the impellar be pointing to the left or the right.i installed the new impellar with the ears pointing to the left,but its still not pumping water.

The driveshaft rotates in a clockwise direction when looking down on it, so the ears should trail, but when you are looking from the bottom of the water pump housing (normal position when installing the impeller) the ears should bend to the right.
