Hi gang,I'm on cloud 9. I just purchased said motor for 100 bucks.
1 pull and she was a purrin'. Model# 35602G. Could anyone tell me if it's
a long or short shaft? An old fella just wanted it out of his garage. He
said he couldn't tug the rope anymore. Replaced it with a key start Honda.

Thanks

measure from where is sits on the transom, to the AV Plate, the flat plate above the prop. 15 inches short shaft, 20 inches long shaft.

Re: 1976 35hp Rude?

Upon further inspection I noticed both coils cracked. I replaced them
and now I'm getting shocked but only at the plug boots(both). Its also
sputtering. First time assembling coils. Any must do's?. Also the bottom
cylinder plug threads were stripped at one time and they put one of those
replacement threads in there. What do you think/

Thanks

Don't be touching high voltage stuff and you won't be getting shocked.

The thread repair should be OK if installed correctly.

OK so the shock at the boot is normal. How about the sputtering issue?

Cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel lines, adjusted the slow speed setting per J.Reeves instruction. That got it running but I,m having trouble finding
that sweet spot. I'm taking my time waiting for the adjustment to take. The motor will konk out at some point no matter. Sputtering and finally quitting.

Thanks,
Tom

Did you replace the spark plug wires at the same time you replaced the coils? The now higher spark voltage now may be causing the spark plug wires to break down and arc to ground somewhere.

Yes sir, coils ,wires, boots, plugs all new. Impeller looks good but I was
wondering if this has a thermostat? Haven't gotten my manual yet.

Thanks for the reply.

I just need to know where it's located. It seems to want to die after warm-up
Do you think I'm on the right track?

Re: 1976 35hp Rude?

I looked at it today and it looks like the t'stat is at the very top of the
cylander cover. If so the whole thing has to come off. I was hoping for
3 bolts like my 69 25hp. I have good water coming out the exhaust
inspected the impeller. It ran for about a minute or so,started to sputter and
quit. I read in another thread that the motor shouldn't get blazing hot.
This did. That's why I'm thinking thermostat. Agree, disagree? Any thoughts are more than welcome.

Yes I did drop the LU and inspect the impeller. No I did not replace it.
It looked almost new. Change it anyway?
