1976 40 hp lower unit???

My lower unit locked up last night, cracked housing and all. <br /><br /> The engine is a 1976 40hp, with the pin drive prop. The lower unit also had the fins out the side of the housing like wings.<br /><br /> Looking for a good used lower unit, newer model with spline drive if it will bolt up.<br /><br /> What year model-HP applications will fit the '76?<br /><br /> Ive seen some adds that kinda group 76-88, 40-60 hp together. Will those later models fit?

nope<br /> your stuck with the 73-76 or so pin drive units. I actually have one outback.<br /> the pin drive unit is much different than the spline drive looper units.

I've got one on a 1974 I just took in. Appears to be in working order. Jim.

This is what it looks like. The faded out section in the middle is just an extension to make it a longshaft. Just looking for the lower part. <br /><br /> Do all '76 40 HP's have the fins out the side?<br /><br /> If anyone has a lower unit they can part with, shoot me a price at jetman@clearwire.net<br />
