1976 40hp selectricshift

beside my carb. there is a metal housing with linkage arm going to butterfly choke. .I would guess to work the choke automatic? anyway arm has been broken. will motor run alright without it? has a metal line comming from back of engine going into it, maybe heat sensor?

It will run alright if you use the big lever to manually lock it open once it's warmed up. If you leave it in the center "Auto" position, then the butterfly may flutter and close off at random times if it's not connected
