Hello
So here is my little problem. This is my first boat. It started but won't stay running for more than a couple seconds. I cleaned the carb, new gas lines,
I have spark, compression( not sure how much), fuel. The motor back fires really really loud. The bottom sprak plug is damp with gas. the upper plug is bone dry. Just wondering if that is a problem. Please help! I want to go fishing!

If the lower plug is wet with fuel, it isn't firing. I believe that the 40 you have is a two cylinder, is that correct? I think that both cylinders are fed by one carb if it is like my old 40. Fuel delivery is fine if both are getting fuel. You may want to check the coil, wire and plug for the lower cylinder. Any one of them could be the culprit.

The only other problem that may crop up is the float level is to high and it floods the lower cylinder and allows the upper one to fire normally. Just some random thoughts from a guy who doesn't know everything.

Thanks for the help. I am pretty sure both coils are working. Is there a way to adjust the float level?
