1976 55 evinrude......good model?

I was considering a '76 55hp evinrude for my pontoon barge. Does anyone have any experience with this motor? I looked on the parts diagrams and it appeared to be a normal mechanical shift, which I liked. Any insight into the reliability of this model would be appreciated.
