Hi guys im thinking of buying this engine .Are they good engines and what should i be looking for?

I have the 55hp from the 76 lineup on my fishing boat and I like it.

Nothing but the normal to look for. Check the compression, along with the usual like signs of overheat, gearcase oil for water intrusion, etc, etc etc

I was thinking about putting it on my pontoon boat its 24ft.I have a 125 force for it now but thought i would sell it and use the 75hp.

Should be a great motor. Only issue is that pre-'78 motors use an older style tilt 'n trim system that are difficult to find parts for if they break. If it doesn't have TnT, finding a compatible OEM unit will be difficult and expensive.

I had the same engine. I installed a pisser on it and other than that i never had a problem. Just maintain normal upkeep. Bulletproof from my experience.
