Hi: Ordered a tach today that is adjustable up to 20 poles. I believe my motor has a 12 pole stator set up? Which wires will I be using? It sounds like the choices are white, black and purple? Thanks everyone. I reviewed several posts and then became confused on the # of poles (12 vs. 20) and wire connections (White, black and purple or simply white and black??)

Re: 1976 75HP Tach Question....

I'm not sure how many poles are on a '76/75hp Randy but my guess is 20 based on the Chrysler design. What leads you to believe it is a 12 pole?
As for the wiring:
Black to ground
White to ignition
Purple to signal (ac connection off of the rectifier or off the engine terminal block)
You might have one more wiring point on the tach which would be again another 12V power supply for an internal light, if equipped.
Good Luck:)

Thanks for responding Big Prairie--Somewhere on the site I read that if this style chrysler had a distributor, it would be a 12 pole?? Seems like more agreement on the 20 pole though. It has the Motorola type ignition if that makes a difference. Thanks again.
