1976 85hp johnson seahorse

I have a 1976 85hp johnson seahorse.I crank it once and it starts up and I warm it up for a bit but as soon as I turn it off I cannot get it started again. It just cranks that one time. I'm pulling my hair thinking about what it is,please any info is apperciated thank you.:eek:

If u let the motor sit for a while and then try starting it will it start:)

yes and i had the carbs cleaned and the battery checked.

Seems to me like your flooding the engine in some way.Make sure the carbs r tuned correctly,if the motor has points make sure they r gapped properly,check to see your fuel pump is operating correctly,that means primer bulb is pumping hard,vent cap on tank opened,put timing light if need on engine, check for rpm reading.Most of the time i write out a list for my self and try to eliminate all the problems within,otherwise purchase a original O.E.M manuel and you cant go wrong .................Cheers.....:D

When it won't start, check each spark plug wire for spark. Check the plugs: are they wet or dry when it won't start?

Symptoms also point to engine overheating.

Yeah,they r also very good points to mention from both Admiral and Commander.Do a compression test and c how u go.:)
