Hey:
I have a 1976 9.9hp Evinrude. I've used this forum before to discuss the electrical (magneto) prob's I was having.
I've since fixed those problems and in the process discovered that the old thermostat was rusted and stuck in the open position when cool.
I changed the thermostat and the gaskets. I took it for a run last night and noticed that once up to temp, it wasn't spitting a lot of water from the exhaust port (no pee hole on this model), although enough to get my hand wet if I held it behind the exhaust port. But after running it for 20-30mins it kept wanting to stall out in low idle and the motor was really hot. Hot enough that you could only place you hand on the flywheen for a few seconds without getting burned.
Should I be looking at the impeller/water pump next or could this be something else. The water intakes on the shaft look clear.
Thanks
Cheers---519
