I own an 1976 Evinrude 6hp, still run well, but i've always be puzzled, this motor have a 3 bladed prop, older 6 Johnson/Evinrude have 2 bladed prop, and, older 6hp (there are a lot on our lake) seems to be weeker ( less torque an les top speed at wot) than the '76 and on motors.
Is it only motor age or there is a difference somewhere ?

Thanks

All of those sixes up to about 1980 were essentially the same design and performed equally (when all else was equal). Lots more variables than just the props. Three blade might be less pitch than the two, accounting for what "seems" to be better performance. The olders might be tired, too. The motors are the same displacement from the early 5.5s up to 1980. I've got an old 5.5 Johnson that performs beautifully on a 12-footer, as well as any 6 I've ever run on it...
