1976 model#4636M serial#E0001767

I just inherited this motor and know nothing about it. It didn't say specifically so I used a 50:1 mixture- it was the newer type oil. It was at full throttle for about 30 minutes when it started to get hot and slow down. The motor was pushing a 9ft Livingston with two adults. I wasn't anywhere near shore so I ran it a bit more to get closer until it stalled. The engine still turns. I rowed it to a friends house that was close by and there it sits.

Was I running it too lean? Pushing it too hard? Should I bump the ratio to 25:1 or more, restart it and drive it home? Could it be a water pump, how would I know? Any advice and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Craig
