Hello helpful friends.
I'm rebuilding a 76 evinrude model 6604a. All is going well except for a part apparently missing from the carburetor. There is a hole to the right of where the slow speed needle screws in. The diagrams on the parts websites don't show anything there. I was hoping someone who had a manuel available would look to see if it's in there, or perhaps someone has experienced this before? This motor runs but without my finger over that hole it squirts fuel out the hole. If nobody has a clue I'm gonna have to JB Weld it.

Thanks
Sorry if my typing is off, I'm using my phone.

That is a air vent hole. It needs to be open for the carb to work correctly. There is a problem with your carb; most likely the float is stuck or saturated with gas and it's flooding.

Thank you TXWhaler. I'll open her up and have another look. I was having problems with the float before; there's a clip that looks like it snaps on the pin that the float activates and I'm not sure how it's supposed to be seated. That may be the issue. Previously it was not letting any fuel in, maybe now it's not stopping. Maybe I can do away with the clip?

Well you are wrong on two counts. First you wanted to plug the vent hole, now you want to throw the clip away. The clip snaps into the groove in the needle, then hooks over the float arm. When the float drops down, the clip drags the needle off the seat.

Not that anyone's counting...

I'll try the clip like that, but it just doesn't seem to fit right.

thanks
