1976 evinrude 85 hp starting problems

hey there! trying to start my engine this after noon, not sure when last serviced as have just brought engine second hand! it turns over fast and wants to go but wont pick up revs. all cylinders have 110 psi compression. and pretty good spark at plugs, not bright big and blue but blue! any ideas on whats wrong?

"Big and blue" is not a requirement. Well, "big" as in "long" is. It should be able to jump a 1/2" gap. It should also be able to knock you clear out of your socks if you let it arc to you (so don't).

I'm guessing you have gummed up carburetors. Just a wild guess, since I'm not there to check it out.

Does the choke solenoid close the choke butterflys when you push in on the key when cranking? After you try to start it, pull out the spark plugs and see if they are wet or dry. Wet plugs indicate no spark, dry plugs-lack of fuel. An inductive timing light on each plugwire is an easy way to check spark.
