I have a Motor with no markings but, does have a model# 85693G. Can anyone give me the sight I could go to to find out a little more about this motor. Or if you have a little free time tell me what it is and if it is a electric shift or manual? Sure would appreciate it. Thanks

Re: 1976 Evinrude 85 HP?

85693G shows as a 1976. I have it's twin in a 1976 Johnson 85. It should have a hydro-mechanical shift. Good motor. Mine has never failed me. As for basics (if I have the model right) It is a crossflow V4. It is unique to 74-76 if I remember right as it has 93.x or 94.x cubic inches whereas other V4's have 99.x. Parts are easy to get. Sierra make most of what you would need, but getting part numbers can be irritating (like head gaskets, can get them, but hard to get the right numbers). WOT is 5200-5500 if memory serves (be sure to check me on this one). I proped mine to turn 5000. Shoot me an e-mail or post here if you want more info. ranger305@hotmail.com

Found that model info at: http://mitglied.lycos.de/old_omc/

Flexnet...to add to Jasons' good info, Ken Cook Company reproduces Service and Parts manuals for the older Johnny/Rudes. Will help when ordering parts most of which are still available. Enjoy!
